The University of Michigan Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (UM-KECC) is an interdisciplinary research group located at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health.UM-KECC carries out research in epidemiology, public policy, economics, outcomes research relating to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), chronic kidney disease, kidney dialysis, and organ transplantation. UM-KECC projects are funded by multiple government and private sources, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). UM-KECC maintains a comprehensive historical database of about 3 million ESRD patients drawn primarily from Medicare data. UM-KECC prepares extensive facility-specific reports for the 6000 dialysis facilities in the U.S. UM-KECC also provides computer support for other University projects using Medicare claims data. Over 80 faculty and staff members work all or part of their time at UM-KECC.
