The University of Waterloo Model G20 Conference, a student run, not-for-profit initiative, is Canada's premier G20 simulation experience, allowing delegates to act as world leaders by taking on the roles of the world's twenty most powerful countries. A true test of communication and negotiation - over the course of four days, delegates collaborate and work to create diplomatic solutions for some of the greatest challenges faced around the world today. Additionally, delegates hear from highly distinguished speakers, meet with leaders in the field of international relations and network with fellow students from across Canada.UWMG20 2015 brought "Innovation" as its theme, breaking out onto the Model United Nations dominated conference scene with a fresh new twist by adopting the G20 debate format. In 2016, UWMG20 centred around "Momentum", as world leaders have begun to demand that the G20 itself should adapt to the needs of the world, dealing with issues outside its traditional scope in the realm of international finance.UWMG20 2017's theme is "Horizon" as this year's conference seeks to posit topics looming in the not-so-far distance with far reaching implications if not addressed. Delegates will push themselves as they collaborate to negotiate creative solutions for burgeoning issues.UWMG20 seeks to provide students with an opportunity to develop essential skills and traits for the real world, including communication, research abilities, diplomacy and confidence.
