Higher Education - Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
The Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona (ETSETB) was created in November 1971, forming part of the Technical University of Catalonia from the very beginning. The ETSETB is the Telecommunication Engineering School at UPC. Our mission is educating engineers competent in the fields of information and communication technology. The number of enrolled students is around 2500, and 450 new students are admitted every academic year. New students join the University at age of 18 (after 12 years of formal education). The average high school mark of admitted students at ETSETB is very high. The first year at our school is very selective and, in average, only two thirds of the students are able to continue their studies beyond this first year. The school consists of 240 faculty members of different categories (full professors, associate professors, assistant professors) that belong to different research departments at UPC 170 of the faculty members have doctorate degrees and participate in high level research activities and technology transfer contracts through projects funded by the European Union, the Spanish and Catalan governments and local companies. Research activities are published regularly in scientific journals throughout the world. These are the reasons why many professors belonging to ETSETB have received national and international awards and distinctions, like the IEEE Fellowships or the European Technology Prize. High-quality teaching is a major priority at ETSETB. Though our school is one of the largest in Spain, there are no more than 60 students in lecture classes and from 15 to 20 students in lab classes, where only 2 students share the same equipment. Practical education is essential in our studies and that is why the school offers a large number of laboratory courses. The school has 32 modern teaching labs and 24 large research labs with the latest technology. At ETSETB there is a close interaction bet...
