UpstartED's mission is to enable youth to discover their potential and empower themselves as local, national and global changemakers.This ambitious mission tackles a complex problem: how can we give young people equitable access to educational experiences that prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century? At UpstartED, we have a multi-pronged approach to solving this problem: 1) We build programs that equip youth with the socio-emotional, digital and entrepreneurial skills necessary to tackle the social and environmental challenges of the 21st century. These programs are built in collaboration with educators, researchers and experts in industry, and are updated on a yearly basis to reflect the ever-changing realities of our world. 2) We mobilize the local community to help deliver these programs in both formal and informal education settings (within the classroom and beyond). By engaging as facilitators, mentors and coaches, community members contribute towards unburdening teachers and help share the accountability of educating the youngest members of our society. 3) We subsidize up to 100% of the cost of programs offered to at-risk youth, students with learning disabilities and students in under-resourced schools. In so doing, we aim to build a generation of diverse and inclusive social innovators.Since 2016, UpstartED has worked with +5,000 students and teachers in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.
