Urban Champions Program empowers students to improve grades, attendance, character, citizenship & maturity. Academically-challenged Youth, Parents, Volunteers, Sponsors Invited San Jose-based non-profit community youth program, Urban Champions, supports young people in becoming goal-directed, independent, and purposeful in order to manage and improve their quality of life.Urban Champions is a training program that focuses on empowering at-risk students/athletes who are academically ineligible, disengaged or struggling to earn passing grades and become "scholar-athletes." The organization works to increase students' capacity to learn, using neuroscience (BrainHQ) and social-emotional techniques to accelerate and optimize student learning and self-management.Urban Champions' founder and Executive Director, Vince McCastle Sr. says, "In its effort to assist students earn passing grades, become academically eligible, enter higher learning institutions, and live fruitful lives, Urban Champions infuses "7 Core Values" in its program. They are Personal Empowerment, Cognitive (brain) & Executive Function Skills Training, Social-Emotional Skills Training, Healthy Eating Habits & Nutritional Training, Parent Empowerment, Earned Rewards through Win-Win Agreements, and Athletic Performance Training."In addition to academic improvement, Urban Champions also strives to assist with improvement in accompanying behaviors, such as attendance, character, citizenship, and maturity. "Urban Champions just works by inspiring at-risk kids to learn skill sets, techniques, and a kind of encouragement to which they would not necessarily have access," said former NFL San Francisco 49er and three-time Super Bowl Champion, Guy McIntyre. He continued, "I'm excited to be involved with the good work the organization is doing."
