Architecture & Planning - Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India
Urban Research Foundation (URF) is a creative research based collaborative working in the domain of Urban Planning and Design and based in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. We are a section 8 company registered under the Indian Companies Act. Our organization is striving to bring the aspect of innovative participatory planning practices to the upcoming Tier-II and Tier-III cities of India. With the expertise of our motivated multidisciplinary team of young professionals, we aim to apply our knowledge and global experience to the development of these small and medium cities. At present in India, Out of 4300 cities, 8 cities are metropolitan, 104 cities are classified as Tier-II, and the remaining fall under the Tier-III categories. By 2050, according to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MoHUA), the urban population will exceed 50% of the total population of the country. Considering this scale of urbanization, the Tier-II and Tier-III cities are in dire need of well-researched, informed and inclusive urban planning as 40% of these cities do not have a master plan. URF believes that the various issues arising in the absence of a master plan can be addressed by contributing to inclusive urban development and bridging the gap between the planning authority and the citizens. We envisage a sustainable urban development that is citizen centric in its approach and participatory in its nature. Such development has already been initiated in the city of Aurangabad, an upcoming Tier-II city in the country. Our VISION AND MISSIONOur vision is to enable Tier-II and Tier-III cities of India in becoming livable, inclusive, and vibrant urban centers that provide socio-cultural opportunities to their citizens. We also aim to steer these cities into alternative economic engines that share the urban pressure of Tier-I cities.
