The mission of USA Fitness Corps is to provide returning veterans with jobs and training as fitness leaders in schools and community centers across the country in an effort to get kids moving and combat childhood obesity.USA Fitness Corps will recruit and train returning US veterans (who face a jobless rate that is approaching 20% as they come home) to act as "community fitness leaders" in their home communities, helping school-age kids get at least the CDC recommended levels of 150-225 minutes per week of physical activity, which only 5% of schools are now able to provide, due to budget cuts. Our trainers will also educate communities about nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, and the benefits of a lifelong commitment to fitness.. This program will help America's youth and give America's heroes, who have already so selflessly served their nation, a chance to serve their communities. USAFC plans to train these Fitness Corps Leaders and deploy them at schools, health clinics, neighborhood recreation centers, community centers, and other venues in communities across the nation that are presently under-served. It is too often true that economically depressed areas suffer from poor schools, poor facilities, over-worked teachers and over-burdened community services. In these places, kids are too often on their own, prone to many dangers, and - not surprisingly - they suffer disproportionately from obesity. It is our belief that in addition to all the work being done to give Americans good, healthy food offerings and good information about nutrition, we need to put "sneakers on the ground" to get America's kids moving again. Who better to fill those sneakers than our strong, returning vets? We are all proud of what they have done for us overseas; we can be proud of doing something for them when they come home.
