Established in 2018, the purpose of the Center for Engagement-Driven Global Education (Center EDGE) is to fuel interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond USC to bring sustainable innovation to scale in the crucial area of educational engagement—the activities and techniques used to pique and maintain student interests and motivation to learn both within and beyond the traditional school day. Center EDGE's programs and activities fall into three broad and overlapping categories: • Engagement Through Arts and Entertainment: Developing and enhancing engagement strategies that leverage students' immense interest in television, film, music, video games and sports for educational benefit.• Engagement Through Science and Technology: Learning how students are using technology for communication and entertainment, and developing strategies to optimize the use of technology in educational engagement.• Rapid Cycle Research: Validating strategies for student engagement, disseminating evidence of success through academic and popular channels, and providing professional development to help teachers employ emerging engagement strategies.
