The purpose and goals of this organization is to bring together and organize graduate students around a common interest in applied community engaged research. The goals of are to: (a) To promote interdisciplinary collaboration.(b) Bring graduate students together for socializing, networking, and professionalization. The possible benefits that GSARN may offer to its members include, but are not limited to: (a) Bridging perceived gaps between formal academic learning at the university and the informal, everyday lives of students.(b) Learning about basic social science research methodologies. (c) Developing critical thinking skills. (d) Improving abilities to engage in multidisciplinary intellectual discussions. (e) Through group discussions, improving public speaking and the ability to articulate arguments and ideas in front of an audience. (f) Exchanging ideas and information with other students. (g) Producing new knowledge about the topics that are the focus of the research.
