The United States National Committee (USNC) for UN Women supports UN Women projects that span 100 countries around the globe. Through dynamic events and membership programs, almost 20 regional chapters, and public education about UN Women and global women's issues, the USNC for UN Women furthers the mission of UN Women via funrdaising and advocacy efforts, as do the other 17 national committees around the world. UN Women was created on July 2, 2010 by the United Nations General Assembly as the UN Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women. It represents the merger of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, such as UNIFEM, that focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
