In the early 2000s, a study from the Edison Electric Institute stated that animals were the second most prominent cause of power outages in the United States and Canada. Small animals gravitate toward substations for warmth and perceived safety, but often times when in and amongst the substation equipment, they can trip a breaker knocking out power.
