Vecotech is an exciting spin-out company from the world-renowned London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Our mission is to tackle some of the world's greatest insect-related public health problems by transforming innovative new academic scientific discoveries into products that address market needs and generate lasting social impact for communities around the world. We have raised funding to initiate the development of an effective, safe bed bug lure and a pipeline of novel insect repellent products. Bed bugs are a significant re-emerging global public health issue and a major global economic problem. The bugs infest homes, hospitals and dormitories and cause immeasurable damage to the hospitality industry. We have identified the essential components of the bug aggregation pheromone and have now developed a simple commercially viable lure. Our lure will be used in monitors and traps specifically to detect early stage infestation. Mosquitoes are a nuisance for travelers and outdoor enthusiasts but they also transmit a number of diseases, which cause well-over half a million deaths every year in developing countries. There are currently no products on the market that offer sustained protection from mosquitoes and other insect bites indoors or outdoors without re-application. We have identified and acquired the rights to bring several novel natural repellents to market and additionally we have created a novel formulation that allows for slow, sustained of our novel compounds for a period of months. Our exclusive formulation will be integrated into products including wearable personal protection accessories (including bracelets, necklaces, and flip flops) and incorporated into everyday household, school or workplace items – providing enduring protection from mosquitoes wherever required. Once we complete current development activities we will take these projects through to partnering and/or licensing with leaders in the pest control industry.
