VELUXlab is the first Italian NZEB building (Nearly Zero Energy Building) in a university campus. We took part in the restoration project of this building which was originally situated in the Milan exhibition area and then moved in the university campus. The main objective of the project was to reduce the impact on the environment using easily recyclable wooden/synthetic insulating materials, recycled fiberglass panels for external insulation, crumbled polystyrene resulting from scraps, iroko wood for external floors. Selecting this materials contributes to reducing environmental impact during the entire life of the building. Not to forget is that dry elements allow to dismantle and to easily recycle all building parts with considerable acoustic and energy performances. VELUXlab is a prototype for new constructions and for future NZEB buildings, a sector launched form 2020 by European Directive 2010/31/UE
