I was born and raised in Central Florida and have always had a love for nature. The Florida Native Plant Society has been an inspiration in taking an active role in helping to protect and restore our native plant communities. As such, this native nursery-in-progress in Osceola County was born with the goal of focusing on Florida native Milkweeds. Velvet Leaf Natives is a name borrowed from one of Osceola County's native Milkweeds: Asclepias tomentosa, or Velvetleaf Milkweed, which is a larval host plant for the Monarch butterfly. We hope to eventually offer a wide variety of native plants for sale as well as participate in and contribute towards conservation and restoration efforts of Osceola County's native plant communities.I am also currently a member of Pine Lily, the Osceola County Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society. If you are interested in native plants, nature, gardening, wildlife, conservation, sustainability, climate change, policy and legislation, preserving our natural Florida, or just connecting with good people who do, follow us and please consider joining the Florida Native Plant Society. If any of these things are important to you, please take an active role in effecting positive change in our State.
