Writing & Editing - Decatur, Georgia, United States
Daren Wang is best known as the Founding Executive Director of the AJC Decatur Book Festival, the largest independent book festival in the country. From the earliest days of envisioning the festival through twelve years of guiding it through spectacular growth, Daren recognized that the success of the DBF was rooted in its ability to tell its story.Working closely with both internal and external communications professionals, Daren oversaw the festival's marketing and public relations efforts, writing editorials, ad copy, program copy, and even slogans. When Daren stepped down from the Decatur Book Festival, Gail O'Neil at ArtsAtl.com ran a lengthy profile for their Legacy Series. Before launching the DBF, Daren was a public radio host and producer, creating local, syndicated, and network programming, including The Spoken Work, Porches: The South and Her Writers, Between the Lines with Valerie Jackson, and Circle of Friends. In 2005 he launched the literary magazine Verb: An Audioquarterly which Library Journal named one of the top new magazines in country. In August 2017, his debut novel The Hidden Light of Northern Fires, was published by St. Martins Press. The Mississippi Clarion Ledger wrote, "Wang dazzles as a literary craftsman in "Hidden Light." It is a thought-provoking tale, grounded in historical fact, that could open the way for even more diverse and compelling literature from the Civil War era."His has published pieces in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Paste Magazine, the Saporta Report, Travel: An AJC Supplement, The Bitter Southerner, and Five Points Magazine.
