Nonprofit Organization Management - Burlington, Iowa, United States
The Veterans National Recovery Center is a non-profit corporation developed specifically to provide the management, oversight and operations of a facility to meet the needs of homeless United States military veterans. There are at least 126,000 veterans across the nation that go to sleep without a home every night. As the war progresses and the 300 to 400 thousand military personnel with PTSD come home, the number of homeless veterans will likely go up. Many will suffer from war injuries of the mind and others will be caught in the economic downdraft with the rest of our nation.Sadly, this special group of veterans have been ignored and neglected because many have not understood the root cause of homelessness among them, which may be economic, but often is caused by a cascading series of events brought on by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).The VNRC will be the first national program of its kind to offer training, counseling and personal connectivity to on-site residents in order to provide help, hope and healing to even the most discouraged homeless veteran and place him or her in a sustainable home environment.
