The Video Art & Experimental Film Festival debuted in 2010 with the support of founding sponsors Vimeo and Tribeca Cinemas. VAEFF's mission is to present the most exciting and adventurous film and video work. Our approach is expansive: we look internationally, accepting submissions from all over the world, and across a range of contexts, from traditional gallery and museum settings and the short film festival circuit, to virtual platforms. We seek work that is produced for an online audience or finds its expression through historically non-artistic channels. This holistic methodology opens up space within the festival for music videos, fashion films, commercials, documentaries, media company presentations, and the creations of tinkerers who attempt to take moving image art in new directions. The festival is organized as a series of curated programs that contextualize seemingly disparate works around provocative themes, ideas, and questions.
