Think Tanks - Vienna, Vienna, Austria
With more than 1.5 billion people living in countries affected by extreme violence, crime and conflict, there is increasing recognition of the linked between of citizen security, governance and development. But these themes are not well integrated, or working together to strengthen institutions of justice, governance, and to provide much needed economic and social opportunities to those in need. The Vienna International Justice Institute (VIJI) is a new independent, think tank, based in Vienna, Austria. The Institute and its partners seek to contribute to a world in which critical transnational threats are better understood, prevented and resolved. The Institute's work is intended to help countries and people to improve their justice systems and contribute to transparent and accountable governance, the promotion of the rule of law and the protection of human rights. The VIJI looks to consider projects that focus assistance and minimize inequality to vulnerable groups, women and the poor. Of significant consideration is the identification of projects that emphasize these groups and optimize existing opportunities that hold the promise of potential economic empowerment and sustainability.
