Music - Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Viral Radio is an Amsterdam based music network that tries to connect the nodes between the ever-changing shapes and forms of contemporary rhythmculture. It serves as a vehicle for investigations into hyperrhythms, bass experimentation and computer improvisation, and tries to draw maps of all the many contemporary music practices. It was founded in 2007, inspired by a paper by MIT Media Lab co-founder Andrew Lippman on autonomous networks and scalable, collaborative systems. His idea of ‘social mobility' is a fitting metaphore for how dubstep, beats and other new forms of electronic music are shared and distributed online via informal and social channels like AIM, Soundcloud and Ustream.
