It was first developed in 1997 and launched by Creative Advances Technology Sdn. Bhd in 1999. The incorporation of VirtualMalaysia.Com was inspired by the vision to serve as the premier information gateway for the Malaysian travel and tourism industry.The website was considered advanced then as it was the first multimedia travel portal in Malaysia with streaming videos and hosted 500,000 images covering virtually every travel destination in Malaysia.In 2006, it was recognized by Tourism Malaysia as the official e-tourism portal for Malaysia and went on to emerge as a social travel portal that incorporates social media features and crowd-sourced content.Today, many industry players still regard it as a premier Malaysia travel portal. Prestigious awards such as APMITTA Asia Pacific MSC, IT and Telecommunication Award (Best Content Development Year 2000), APICTA- Asia Pacific IT Award (Best Tourism Applications- Year 2001 and 2005) and Prime Minister Award (ICT Premiere Award – 2003) bear testimony to this.
