Vista Point Jazz Quartet is Woody Rowland or Ed Murphy on drums, Mark Richardson on bass, Rick Perko on guitar, and myself, Bob Harlow on Alto Sax. From the press kit:The back story:Bob Harlow expects to someday be the Grandma Moses of the Alto Sax. Growing up on Long Island in the 50's, he played clarinet, guitar, and alto sax, and sang with a folk trio. In college he was a DJ with a regular jazz radio show on WHRB-FM, Harvard Radio for Greater Boston. HIs main saxophone influences have been Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, and Gerry Mulligan. Throughout his adult life, alas, he played only sporadically but woke up one morning at age 61 and said, "I have to play the saxophone regularly to be happy!" He began again by studying saxophone with Wayne Collyer, composition with Michael LaMacchia, and bandleading with Andy Dudnick. Showing up at Marin open mics with charts in his hand, he would take his sax along to restaurants and clubs where music was being played, sitting in wherever the groups were bold (or foolish) enough to let him.His original compositions include Katie's Tune, Moodling, Flight Deck, and Peace Feelers.Hear them at myspace.com/bobharlow.He has performed (or sat in) at Sweetwater Station, the No Name Bar, 19 Broadway, the Mill Valley Golf Club, the Tamalpais, Tara Firma Farms, Hotel Adagio, Hotel Vitale, Caffe Trieste, DiVino's Restaurant, Marin Brewing Company, Laguna Honda Hospital, Studio 333, Bookbeat Cafe, and the Belrose Theatre.
