Born from the first hand experiences of our Executive Director Jorge Guzman, Vive | NW was created to provide a solution for the lack of cultural diversity in the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest. Born in Mexico and immigrating with his mother at the age of 12, Mexico was always considered home for Jorge. After more than a decade in Oregon it wasn't until Jorge experienced surfing, hiking and snowboarding for the first time that he began to feel a stronger connection to the Pacific Northwest.Through this initiative Vive | NW aims to connect local Latino communities to the outdoors and the wealth of experiences offered by this landscape. Our objective is to provide valuable information and outdoor experiences that will empower the diverse communities to live a healthier and more engaged lifestyle while creating a sense of ownership and stewardship towards the environment.Vive | NW is a non-profit organization working under the fiscal sponsorship of the Urban Greenspaces Institute and a member of the Intertwine Alliance. Vive NW will accomplish its objective by creating effective community engagement strategies and programs that will empower these communities to experience, live and protect nature.
