Vancouver Island Work-Integrated Learning (VIWIL) is a partnership between North Island College (NIC) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) to enhance opportunities for work-integrated learning in the form of co-operative education and internships by connecting employers with students on Vancouver Island, specifically in areas extending north of the Malahat.Through the development of a "regional hub", and regional initiatives cooperatively developed by partner institutions and regional partners, the hub will engage employers in the development of WIL opportunities that will be available to students from both institutions and therefore enhance the possibility that employer needs can be met by expanding the pool of available students.This regional partnership is a significant step toward a system approach that models the strength of collective effort, sharing of resources and collaborative ethos that results in greater benefit and opportunity for students. Enhancing capacity is a key goal for this project, achieved through improving access across the region.
