Voice of Love is the only nonprofit in the world whose mission exclusively supports interpreting for survivors of torture, war trauma and sexual violence. Voice of Love (VOL) develops training and resources for interpreters. It also develops resources and training about how to work with interpreters in this sensitive field. More than 100 volunteers from across the U.S. and in other countries have contributed to the work of VOL, including national and international specialists in the field of interpreter curriculum development and torture treatment programs. To date VOL has developed the only five-day training for interpreters in this field. "HEALING VOICES: Interpreting for Survivors of Torture, War Trauma and Sexual Violence" is a rich, robust curriculum with a training manual of over 300 pages that will be published in late 2014 or early 2015. VOL has also developed needs assessment in this field and two unpublished guides. VOL is currently developing a Training of Trainers program about how to deliver a five-day session of HEALING VOICES. In the future it plans to license trainers in teams of two--an interpreter trainer and a trauma-informed therapist specializing in torture treatment services and/or refugee mental health--to deliver HEALING VOICES.
