Voices of Women is a not for profit organisation inspired by storytelling and storytellers, performance and music. It has community, openness and collaboration at its heart.Women have powerful stories to share. Their everyday is their own stage, and they survive on a journey of emotional reconciliation within themselves, navigating a path through society and those around them with humour, wit and insight. We are committed to breaking down barriers, presenting voices from First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse communities, women living with disability and LGBTQI+ communities. For women writers it is a chance to hear a piece they have created come alive in the hands of professional and trained actors and storytellers. The format is for stories written in the first person point of view – monologues, narratives, soliloquy. Writers can be mentored through workshops or assessments to develop their pieces. For actors it's a chance to give voice to stories of women, not staged, not costumed. It comes from a Readers Theatre tradition, with short narratives read with authenticity and character conviction in amongst the audience. For the audience it is a chance to be washed with and immersed in stories and storytellers in ways that we have forgotten or are rare, in unexpected places.
