Scandinavian Motors Corporation (SMC) is a 100% Filipino owned company and the licensed importer and assembler of Volvo cars in the Philippines. SMC distributes through Viking Cars, Incorporated (VCI) – its marketing arm in charge of direct retailing in Metro Manila and dealer franchising for other regions of the country. Their office, showroom and service center is located at 2272 Don Chino Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo Extension), Makati City.Through VCI, SMC successfully introduced the 850 series in 1994 and the 960 in 1995. In 1997, the Volvo S40/V40 was successfully launched and became the entry model in the compact car segment. In year 2001, the Volvo S80 was introduced and the exciting S60 was launched in the market establishing Volvo as one of the leading luxury car brands in the market to date. This was closely followed by the local release of the XC70 Cross Country. In recent years, Volvo's first Sport Utility Vehicle – the XC90 – as well as the new S40 2.4 L and the V50 2.4 L were introduced to the local market. For 2007, the All-New Volvo S80, All-New Volvo C70 Coupé-Convertible, the XC90 D5 AWD and Volvo C30 Sports Coupé were added. 2008 saw the arrival of the All-New V70 and XC70, thus infusing more rugged luxury to the Volvo Philippines' already dynamic vehicle lineup. In the first quarter of 2009, Volvo Philippines launched in the local market the world's first car that can stop itself – the new Volvo XC60. In 2010, Volvo launched the All-New Volvo S60 Sports Sedan at the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show. This groundbreaking piece of engineering introduced yet another safety innovation – Collision Warning with Full Auto Break and Pedestrian Detection. Volvo in the Philippines is relatively a latecomer in the luxury car segment but SMC's and VCI's clear directions on how to maximize its brand's strengths have managed to create an impact in the industry.
