Virginia Theological University is Exempt From the Requirement of State Approval under the Provisions of Chapter 21 of the Code of Virginia in accordance with Subsection A, of Section 23-266. The exemption was granted in 1993 by the Commonwealth of Virginia.. The University provides students excellent research opportunity in western theologies; Philosophy, History, Classics, Revelation, Ethics, Seminary and Institutional Management, and Theological laws. Students can complete the degree program from Bachelors through Doctorate entirely on line, sans residency requirement. Students can apply for Interest free student loans and apply for a large number of scholarship for research funded by various denominations. University was a part of the Southern Union Unitarian Seminaries that came into existence in early 1960's teaching the unitarian doctrine, but upon converting to the full University system in the early 1990's the University converted to a non denominational institutional system. VTU was the first Theological University in the world that offered degrees entirely on line. University has a substantial experience in e-learning systems and currently is the first University in the world that is testing the tablet pc deployment through out the University for the students and professors.
