Writing & Editing - Budapest, Budapest, Hungary
The Várfok Gallery, founded in 1990 by Károly Szalóky, is one of the first private galleries established in Budapest to have a purely contemporary art profile. Its artists' circle currently comprises some 22 members who are mainly painters and photographers. Over 30 years, the Gallery has developed into a highly professional, well equipped and highly regarded institution with an established and respected reputation in Budapest in particular, throughout Hungary in general and across an international spectrum of art fairs and galleries abroad. It has three main exhibition spaces. First, the main 200 sq m white cube space with its moveable walls and modern, professional light and sound system provides a cutting edge exhibition venue. In addition there is an extensive art library and storage facilities for more than 1000 artworks. To complement the facilities afforded in the main gallery, the Várfok Project Room provides a more intimate setting for young artists to present their work, often for the first time. It also offers an experimental setting for works without limitation of genre. Also, Várfok 19 provides outdoor art exhibition opportunities in purpose built glass cases which bring art directly to the public in the street. So, as a result of these three very different and highly flexible exhibition spaces, the Várfok Gallery can provide its artists, its staff and the public at large, with an ever changing and always exciting wealth of aesthetic experiences and opportunities.
