VästKom was founded in 2001 and is a non-profit association with the four sub-regional municipal associations in Västra Götaland; Fyrbodal, the Gothenburg region, Skaraborg and the Borås region as members. The municipal associations in turn have the county's 49 municipalities as members. VästKom is the municipalities 'joint collaborative partner with a focus on welfare and regional development and will represent and coordinate the municipalities' interests at regional level.
