The Breast Cancer Research Trust and Waikato District Health Board do not receive any government funding for breast cancer research. With each clinical trial costing at least $200,000 to run we rely on fundraising, donations, grants and sponsorship to ensure we can continue our evidence-based breast cancer research. Research is the best weapon we have to fight breast cancer. By providing wāhine/women with access to clinical trials, we can advance our knowledge of breast cancer, discover best-practice treatments, and get patients the outcomes they hope so desperately for. With your support we will be able to: * set up even more clinical trials * cover the cost of clinical trial related surgeries and expensive equipment* send blood and tumour samples to specalised laboratories overseas* pay for the dispensing of trial drugs by trial pharmacists* survey women's quality of life in relation to reconstruction surgery or trial treatments* ensure our research staff attend training courses, workshops and conferences for their professional development and continuing education * assist breast cancer specialist staff to attend educational conferences and meetings in relation to improving breast cancer care* support research nurses to attend weekly breast multidisciplinary meetings on management of new breast cancer cases* travel around the Waikato, and New Zealand, making people aware of the vital work we are doing and the difference it is making * assist with costs of publications and dissemination of research results to the medical and wider communities* advertise and promote our clinical trials to reach as many potential participants as possible * provide people with information leaflets about us, our research and clinical trials
