Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa take an initiative to corporatize management of Water and Sanitation Services in the province and established seven Divisional Level Water and Sanitation Services Companies in 2015 including WSS Peshawar, WSSC Mardan, WSSC Kohat, WSSC Swat, WSSC Bannu, WSSC DI Khan and WSSC Abbottabad.Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Abbottabad was established under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984 with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan in September 2015 but started its operations in April 2017 due to delay in signature of SAMA Agreement which was signed in April 2017.The company started establishing itself since first quarter of the 2016. Above twelve (12) members Board of Directors (BoD) was constituted in March 2016 and subsequently Chairman of the BoD was nominated / approved in the next month. A full time CEO was hired in September 2016. Further the following key members of the core team were hired in early February 2017The goal of WSSCA is to "bring sustained improvement in water and sanitation delivery to effectively address the basic needs of citizens of Abbottabad". The rationale for setting up this company is to amalgamate, under one corporate entity, all drinking water, sanitation and solid waste management services in Abbottabad. Previously, these services were being provided by various government entities, departments and sections such as Tehsil Municipal Administration Abbottabad, Public Health Engineering Department or Town Committees. This integration will greatly improve the overall planning and service delivery in the city by making infrastructure development, and operations and maintenance more efficient and effective. The current jurisdiction framed for WSSCA integrated service is limited to 10 Union Councils of Abbottabad which will be extended to other areas in future.
