Utilities - Vernon, British Columbia, Canada
Water Project for Haiti is a Vernon, British Columbia (Canada) based organization dedicated to bringing clean brochure coverwater solutions to the L'Artibonite River Valley in Central Haiti.Because of its proximity to the Artibonite River, the largest river in Haiti, residents in this area have access to water, but it is full of contaminants and harmful bacteria. People - and animals - are routinely seen washing and bathing in the river and canals, and latrines are located nearby.Water Project for Haiti produces and distributes residential Biosand Filters (BSF), using local materials and labor, to bring clean, safe water to the individuals in this area. BSFs eliminate up to 99% of harmful bacteria often found in the water supply.WPH charges a nominal fee for the filters - $40HT or 200 goudes - rather than giving the filters away. We believe this encourages filter owners to use their filters properly. We have also witnessed first-hand the joy and pride that many filters owners exhibit during installation.
