The Museum of Wayne County History, run by the nonprofit organization the Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS), is located in the historic village of Lyons, NY. The museum is housed in the former Wayne County Jail and Sheriff's residence built in 1856 and used until 1960. The 24 jail cells are still intact with some of the original inmate artwork on the walls. Learn the stories of some of the inmates that served time at the jail and tour 18 of the cells and three floors of exhibition space, such as Lyons Pottery & Clyde Glass, the Military Room which spans the French and Indian War to Desert Storm, a Child's 1856 bedroom, and much more. The museum is located at 21 Butternut Street; a short walk up from lock #27 and the town square.
