Women's Education and Economic Center (WEECE) is a non profit, non political, non governmental organization, founded in 1999. Established by a group of 15 women of the Kilimanjaro region, who realized the social and economic marginalization of girls and women in the area. Its main goals are to improve gender equality and to raise the social and economic status of women through development programs and projects by providing microloans, which empower groups economically and provide them with social services, such as education and health. For the past 17 years the organization has been working with female members of the community to build entrepreneurship skills, training them on human rights and corporate governance, provision of psycho-social support and care, and instilling the culture of savings and credit through the VICOBA model. The organization is currently supporting the community through various programs such as VICOBA, vocational training and hosting volunteers for the development work. WEECE is operating in the villages of Kyomu, Kiterini, Mvuleni, Remiti, Josho, Nganjoni, Mjohoroni, Moshi/Shanty town, Kariwa, Rau, Sambarai,Marangu,and Njia panda administrative areas.WEECE hires volunteers throughout the year.
