Merging dance and theater, Welcome to Campfire's productions immerse performers and audiences in dystopian futures that both endanger and engender intimate human connection. Welcome to Campfire stretches the limits of audiences' empathy by expanding the definition of immersive theatre and prioritizing the development of original stories.Tony and Ingrid first met while performing in Sleep No More NYC in 2013. They later spent a year together in China as part of the original cast of Sleep No More Shanghai. They have since collaborated to conceive, create, direct, and perform three evening-length productions of two original danceplays in Shanghai and New York City.Tony and Ingrid's first creation, CAMPFIRE, tested the limits of human empathy through a story about the last two people on earth. They premiered it with a run of sold out shows in an office space in downtown Shanghai that was still under construction, where the audience moved with them through an entire gutted floor of a building strewn with rubble and debris. Tony and Ingrid next presented CAMPFIRE in The Tank's intimate 56-seat blackbox in midtown Manhattan, with a two-part immersive scent sculpture that diffused toxic-seeming metallic notes into the hint of campfire embers. In January 2020, Tony and Ingrid premiered a kind of alternate-universe prequel to CAMPFIRE called the Pigeon & The Mouse in a raw, vacant retail space near Grand Central Station. It is a love story about leaving home. They went on to perform adaptations of the piece for fourteen live audiences over the course of quarantine in NYC, presenting the final show at the The Empty Circle gallery in Brooklyn, where audiences and passers-by on the sidewalk could view the piece, at a safe social distance, through the glass storefront. When it was no longer possible to perform live, they collaborated with filmmaker and former dancer Daniel Robinson to create the most intimate, accessible, and enduring version of their story.
