It is reported that over 60 million children in India alone live malnourished. In a country with over 1.25 billion population, over 20 million people go to sleep hungry every night with no food to eat and over 9000 die out of hungry related issues every day in India. This situation should change and it is possible only when nutritious food is not only available in remote villages but also affordable and accessible to the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable section of any society and community. WePlant idea is to plant fruit trees in public places in large numbers and thus ensuring availability of fruits for growing children and weak elderly alike.WePlant is a movement that saves seeds of all edible fruits and plant them in public places to grow indigenous and location specific fruit trees in public places in order to create public orchards. Trees are the partners in development in this innovative model. The public orchards with large numbers of fruit trees will supply nutritious fruits to the poorest of the poor in rural India. WePlant believes that five to ten years of focused intervention can change the nutritious status of India forever. WePlant is committed to transform India, one village at a time. Malnutrition and hunger death can be eliminated with the success of this program. There are several other important benefits when trees are planted in large numbers. Vision of WePlant: A world free of malnutrition and hunger deathMission of WePlant: Every school to have SeedBank, where every student saves seeds and plants them in public places, so that every village in India has a public orchard so that fruits will be available and accessible to economically challenged and vulnerable communities and individuals.
