Founded in 1986, the West Hollywood Cheerleaders is a community-based nonprofit organization comprised of a diverse and colorful group of LGBTQI and LGBT-allied volunteers dedicated to addressing social stereotypes, promoting self-acceptance and ending the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. During its nearly 30-year history, its membership has included a diverse array of individuals across a broad gender, race, religious and sexual orientation spectrum. As the official ‘Ambassadors of Goodwill and Friendship' of the City of West Hollywood, Weho Cheer has been awarded numerous honors since its inception, including most recently, the 2014 Paul Starke Warrior Award for community service. Weho Cheer's public performances, events, partnerships and grassroots support of community and HIV/AIDS-based charities include Being Alive, The Life Group LA, APLA, AIDS Walk LA, AIDS LifeCycle, AID for AIDS/Alliance for Housing and Healing, AIDS Assistance Program and Christopher Street West, among others. Weho Cheer believes in creating a world without prejudice and judgment — one that's built on the principle of love, kindness, understanding and authentic, inner beauty. Its mission has strengthened its role in the community as it continues the fight against HIV/AIDS through education, esteem and empowerment. Stand OUT. Stand UP.
