West Midlands Councils is an independent body which supports, represents and promotes the interests of the local authorities in the West Midlands and the communities they serve. As such it works to secure a strong and coherent voice for local government and promotes the West Midlands in relation to subnational, national and international issues. WMC is supported by a small secretariat which focuses on employers services and strategic coordination. The Employers Services Team provides the long standing role of the Regional Employers Organisation. For many years this function has represented the major service arm of the various regional local government groupings and is responsible for providing advisory, support, networking and representative services on behalf of local authorities as employers. For further information please see our Service Statement. The Strategic Coordination Team focuses on two specific areas of activity: Securing European Funding for local government and partners to support economic growth, innovation, research and investment across the region and bespoke to the characteristics and needs of the sub-regions. Working with local authorities to identify, prioritise and co-ordinate activity which improves local and sub-regional working and secures greater influence, autonomy and devolution of functions, public funding and decision-making to sub regions and councils.
