Individual & Family Services - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank (WPADB) is the region's premier diaper bank supporting 12,000 families in Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties. Established in 2012, the WPADB is sustained by partnerships and collaborations with The National Diaper Bank Network, diaper drives, fundraising efforts, and private donors. We distribute 2 million diapers a year to families in need. Our 54 social service agencies order diapers, wipes, period, and incontinence supplies for direct distribution to the working poor, low-income, and poverty-stricken families monthly. Our warehouse facility in the Point Breeze community houses our inventory for re-package and distribution to those in the most need. Basic-essential needs are not subsidized by the government agencies that one might expect, including WIC or SNAP benefits. Many additional products are supplied as they become available such as children's clothing, formula, and accessories that families on the fringes of society need. In 2020 it became clear that more families in Western Pennsylvania were needing access to resources not covered by government assistance programs. This was emphasized by the pandemic, which made it harder for families in crisis to gain access to basic needs. Diaper costs pre-pandemic were $80-$100 per month per baby. Since the pandemic, diaper costs have increased 14% making it more difficult for 1 in 3 families to keep their babies clean, healthy, and dry. Here are some ways you can support us:- Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and join our mailing list at wpadiaperbank.org.- Host a Diaper Drive or start a Birthday, Anniversary, or Baby Shower Fundraiser on Facebook- Volunteer with us at one of our warehouses- in Point Breeze or Mount Pleasant
