A not-for-profit, the Whitlam Institute, within Western Sydney University, works "to help the great and continuing work of building a more equal, open, tolerant and independent Australia," as tasked by Australia's 21st Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, 12 November 2010. The Whitlam Institute acknowledges the Darug people of the Darug nation as the traditional owners and custodians of the lands on which we work as the first people of this country. We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart.We are a dynamic public policy institute that commemorates and is inspired by the life and work of one of Australia's most respected Prime Ministers, the Hon Gough Whitlam AC QC. The Whitlam Institute is guided by the ‘three great aims' that drove the Whitlam Program of 1972; to promote equality; to involve the people of Australia in the decision-making processes of our land; and to liberate the talents and uplift the horizons of the Australian people.
