Widowed Friends supports positive changes to the wellbeing of widows and widowers through inclusion, friendship and an understanding of the unique challenges all widowed people face. We focus on helping members regain social connections, encourage personal growth and offer support in rebuilding a positive future after loss.The idea for the widowed community started when our Founder, a recent widow, found herself alone and feeling socially isolated especially on weekends, a difficult time for people who have lost their spouse. She wondered if there were others in the widowed/widower community feeling the same way and wondered how to connect people together so we could all benefit from shared understanding, friendships, and social support. She along with some others organized a first get-together and Widowed Friends grew from there.From the start, the focus of the group was on developing weekly events, so members always had something to look forward to and new members had an opportunity to interact with the growing community. As a result, the calendar was full of get-togethers for members to enjoy on a weekly basis. During Covid-19, Widowed Friends moved online, hosting a variety of social activities, including guest zoom presentations and extended supporting members through weekly newsletters and a new website.The community has great ideas and plans for the future.Make sure you are following us to keep up to date of all future events!
