Wildcare Tasmania is a not-for-profit charity and registered environmental organisation. With the purpose of bringing people together to care for nature, wildlife, and cultural heritage in Tasmania, Australia. Wildcare originated from within the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service over two decades ago as a way to support people to take custodianship of special places.Wildcare Tasmania is powered by:• 5,000 members,• 60 volunteering groups,• donors from all around the world contributing to our Nature Conservation Fund,• a volunteer Board,• a volunteer Grants Assessment Committee and• a staff team of 2 FTE.Our programs include:- care of the environment in National Parks and reserves- weed and feral animal eradication and habitat restoration for native wildlife- wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release- wildlife disease research - eg research into the Tasmanian Devil facial tumor disease- maintenance of genuine Tasmanian wild bushwalks in some of the most remote places on the planet, minimising environmental impact through good track maintenance and walking principles- nightly community guiding and education at penguin colonies- weed eradication on remote islands offshore of Tasmania, and maintenance of original lighthouses- coastal clean-ups of rubbish brought into our remote pristine beaches from ocean currents- weed eradication exercises on wild coastlines, including an annual multi-day community sea spurge weeding event at the beautiful Bay of Fires.
