William Harris Lee & Co. has established a reputation for making the finest sounding, most affordable hand crafted violins, violas, cellos and basses in the United States! We have over a dozen master makers working in our Chicago shop, including Vanna So, Gary Garavaglia, Bronek Cison, Peter Staszel, Mietek Rusnak, Thanh Kim, Ran Dim, and Jan Bobak, along with talented apprentices. We take pride in providing string players with the best access to professional instruments, in addition to serving as a reputable consignment service for selling personal instruments.Our Educational Strings rental program provides school programs and individuals of all ages with affordability, excellent value and and service as students progress through sizes or choose to buy an instrument from the Educational Strings line. Each shop has associates who specialize in rentals.Our flagship store in Chicago's historic landmark Fine Arts Building on South Michigan Avenue and our lovely new shop in downtown Wilmette, IL host numerous field trips, recitals, concerts and master classes and other community events throughout the the year. Once a month each shop hosts Stories Wrapped in String, a free family event bringing live strings music to morning story times.
