WingHopper began in 2015 as the parametric geometry foundation of Zach Backas's senior thesis at Webb Institute, entitled "Parametric Optimization of a Kiteboarding Hydrofoils Using CFD". Since then, Zach's parametric wing model, WingHopper, has been in constant development and use in his roles designing racing kitefoils and eFoil wings for Fliteboard. WingHopper has become the backbone of Darkmatter Engineer's wing design process, and it's integration with XFLR5 for CFD analysis enables simple and streamlined design evaluation and iteration. Zach's goal for WingHopper is to create an industry standard design tool for foils so that less time can be spent on CAD and more time on building and testing. WingHopper is built on a fundamental desire to ignite the foiling community and allow for easy and efficient exploration of the vast wing design space in a simple and engaging way. WingHopper is built for hobbyists, professionals, and foil addicts of all sorts to indulge further in their passion and contribute to our collective foil knowledge and experience.
