WIRED empowers athletes to develop life skills, through sport, so they may attain a life path oriented toward optimal health and well-being in which body, mind, and spirit are integrated by the individual to live more fully within the human and natural community. This will be facilitated through a team approach of coaches, mentors, mental health professionals, family, and self to explore the inter-connectedness of the below core values while triathlon training. Paramount to the program is addressing TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTSD (post-trauma stress disorder). Individuals in the line of duty understand honor and selflessness. Many live with visible scars as a result of their sacrifice, but a silent majority embody wounds of duty that are not externally visible. The connection of exercise, brain function and behavior is significant as far as a life tool in managing the response of the brain. For many it is counter-intuitive that stressing the body (with exercise) could result in a calming effect in the brain, but it does; conjointly with numerous other benefits (improved sleep quality, mood elevation, decreased inflammation, etc). WIRED is committed to honoring the individuals who have served by facilitating this experience of self-growth and discovery through sport.
