The Wireless Internet Institute (W2i) produces superior programs and editorial content addressing the need to explore, think and learn in an interactive atmosphere highly conducive to establishing relationships, alliances and partnerships.W2i began its thought-leadership activities with a retreat, The New Dynamics of the Wireless Internet, at the Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta in the fall of 2002. Immediately afterward, W2i formed the Spectrum Policy Group to explore the Federal Communication Commission's landmark reform of its entire spectrum policy.On June 26, 2003, in conjunction with the United Nations Information and Communication Technology Task Force (UNICTTF), W2i hosted The Wireless Internet Opportunity for Developing Countries at UN Headquarters in New York, creating the conditions for informal dialogue and brainstorming among industry practitioners, government representatives and international development experts.In November 2003, W2i hosted the first Wireless Internet and Municipal Government Summit in cooperation with the Office of the Mayor in Atlanta. The findings were submitted as a report to the first World Summit of Cities and Local Authorities in Lyon, France later that December.In 2003 and 2005, W2i was a delegate to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). In preparation for Geneva 2003, W2i, the UN ICT Task Force and the infoDev program of the World Bank co-published The Wireless Internet Opportunity for Developing Countries.In spring of 2004, within the WSIS framework, W2i launched the Global Municipal Government and Local Authorities Series with the UN Information and Communications Technologies Task Force, including programs in Amman, Jordan; San Mateo, California (report); Monterrey, Mexico; and Rio de Janeiro.In preparation for the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis 2005, W2i and the UN ICT Task Force co-published The Promise of Broadband Wireless Communities thanks to a grant from Intel Corp.In spring of 2005, W2i prepared the Intel white paper Digital Communities Best Practices, and in May 2005, W2i co-hosted the inaugural Digital Cities Convention with the leadership of the City of Philadelphia. Attracting 200-300 local-government decisionmakers and IT professionals, and the ecosystem of broadband-wireless equipment, service, and application providers and systems integrators, the Convention has traveled around the world since 2005 to the following host cities: Philadelphia (2X), Shanghai, San Francisco, Bilbão, Houston, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Taipei, London (2X), Phoenix, hicago and Washington DC.W2i has launched in 2008 a new initiative, the Wireless Governement Report, and is presently preparing a new program of shared information and webinars specifically addressed to video monitoring wireless systems, MetroVideoMonitor.
