WKTV Community Media was created in 1974 to serve Wyoming and Kentwood Michigan and the surrounding areas with media production services. WKTV operates on a free of charge basis for use of its production facilities in return for the opportunity to broadcast created media on television and online. Originally starting out in cable television in 1974, WKTV Community Media has expanded over the years to include a wide array of community media that is cablecast on its cable channels. From narrative film to documentaries to community news to local sports, WKTV Community Media also provides coverage of city meetings for both the cities of Wyoming and Kentwood, Michigan. In 2012 WKTV launched the community newsroom, WKTV Journal which is published daily and broadcast on the channel and on line. In 2013, WKTV created a digital cinema department for narrative filmmakers and documentary producers to create content and in 2017, WKTV launched the community history project "Voices" which provides opportunities of personal and community history to be told in a traveling recording booth. The latest addition to WKTV Community Media is WKTV Podcasting which gives community members the opportunity to create talk format programming that is also covered for television and distributed on both platforms of television and on line.
