The Women in Science Society (WISSOC) was founded towards the end of 2016 with a vision and constitutional aim to encourage and support gender equity in Science at USYD, in hope to instigate the long-needed cultural shift toward a STEM community that does not discriminate. Prior to the establishment of the Society, there was distinct lack of a student body that represented the voice of female students studying Science degrees or subjects. As such, the Society adopts the outlook of making a difference by implementing brand new programs, events, and initiatives.

The Women in Science Society at the University of Sydney (WISSOC) is a student-run organization dedicated to promoting gender equity in STEM fields. Founded in 2016, the society aims to address the lack of representation and support for female students studying science degrees or subjects. With a vision to instigate a cultural shift towards a more inclusive STEM community, WISSOC implements various programs, events, and initiatives to encourage and support gender equity. The society's efforts are focused on creating a positive impact by providing opportunities for female students to connect, network, and develop their skills. Through their events, workshops, and mentorship programs, WISSOC empowers women to pursue their interests and careers in STEM fields, breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes. With a strong presence on campus, WISSOC is a valuable resource for students, fostering a sense of community and belonging among its members. As a result, the society has become a leading voice in promoting gender equity in STEM education and beyond.
In 2016, a group of people started the Women in Science Society (WISSOC) at the University of Sydney. They wanted to make sure that women had the same opportunities as men in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. They wanted to create a community where everyone was treated fairly and had the same chances to succeed. Before WISSOC was created, there wasn't a group that spoke up for women studying science. So, the Society decided to take action and create new programs, events, and ideas to make a difference. They wanted to make sure that women had a voice and were treated equally in the STEM community.
