Wominyan is a space for and by Jewish women* to author their identities. Our mission is to nurture self-fulfillment through three forces:Jewish knowledge, community, and self-exploration.Our Programs:RetreatsOur three-day immersive gatherings are the core of Wominyan. A weekend of deep bonding and learning, we examine the question "What does it mean to be a Jewish-woman?" from different perspectives. We are guided in sessions led by featured Jewish educators and peer-to-peer workshops. This August, we'll have hosted 5 retreats with 110+ participants from across the country.Holidays & ShabbatThese special days are when we build our practices as Jewish-women*, whether we do so by attending a Shofar-sounding class or a regal Shabbat in honor of Purim and our inner Queen.HervrutaThis is our spin on traditional Jewish pair-learning (Chevruta). Every couple of months, each Hervruta pair receives a packet of texts and activities that explore the intersection of gender and Judaism. Online CommunityWominyanistas are in all corners of the globe. We stay in touch by sharing the latest articles we're grappling with, warm words of encouragement, and songs that get us through the day.Our Story:Once upon a time, the fabric of Jewish practice was woven around the Temple, our most sacred place. The Jewish people faced an impossible question when it was destroyed: how could Judaism survive? To craft an answer, a council of male sages — The Sanhedrin — gathered to reshape our religion into the practices we still hold dear today. But what would Judaism look like today if women had been at that table>At Wominyan, we are a Sanherdrin taking ownership of Judaism, exploring practices that celebrate, embrace, reimagine, and examine what it means to be a Jewish woman*. Just like our sages cultivated Judaism to fit their new reality, we lovingly mold ours.We don't need seats when we can build our own table.
