Founded in 2009 by Phil Wren, our focus has turned to the future of our cities and towns at a time when the purpose of urban centres is being severely challenged and when the economic drivers that shaped and distorted them in the last half of the 20th century are weakened by alternative channels and new communication systems. New functions and a re-evaluation of some of the former functions of urban centres are needed going forward if our town centres are to survive and be healthy places to live and work. At the same time the historic layers of the fabric of our town centres are relevant to a new generation seeking authentic and subtly unique environments that project a sense of place and belonging. Adaptation and repurposing is our default mode, preferring to preserve and reuse embodied energy and heritage where possible but replacing with new when necessary. We combine 35 years of individual experience of working in commercial environments and in reshaping existing buildings for new uses with the desire and drive of a young team eager to help shape change.
